Irredentism as an element of the modern Foreign Policy Strategy of the Republic of South Ossetia

Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the problems of irredentism. The author in his research focuses on the phenomenon of irredentism as a component of the foreign policy strategy of the state, traces the dynamics of the formation and manifestation of the phenomenon. The author's work is based on the synthesis of two theoretical and methodological approaches: primordialism and constructivism. According to the author, the choice of a state's foreign policy strategy is usually influenced by two factors: tradition and opportunistic circumstances affecting its modern specifics. Based on the results of the conducted research, it can be concluded that today irredentism remains one of the most important elements, although not the dominant one, of the foreign policy strategy of the Republic of South Ossetia.
